I just wanna be your lover
No matter how it ends, no matter how it starts
Forget about your house of cards— House of Cards by Radiohead
Fall off the table, and get swept under
With their flipped images, high-ranking cards can represent duality, secrets, and— almost literally— a two-faced nature.
SamSara at it’s core is very much about secrets and what drives us to hide ourselves in a place where appearance and school hierarchy is really everything. This is a story about finding how to be honest, how to be vulnerable, and what brings out the best and worst in a person.
Ace of Hearts: The suit of hearts is ruled by Spring and Fire. It represent emotions, love, youth, and vulnerability. Aces represent the beginning, desire, and the individual. This is a passionate, optimistic card.
Sara represents the lowest and the highest value card, much like day and night. She’s dormant and withdrawn, sheltering a wounded heart- but shines brightest and is at her strongest when honest, heart exposed.
Queen of Diamonds: This suit is ruled by Autumn and Earth. Diamonds represent money, entertainment, responsibility, security, judgement, and values. This card is known to be a flirt and a gossip.
Blaire’s marionette strings represent the control she has over several different things, and the consequences of losing that control and freedom to puppeteer them, getting tangled in her own web.
Jack of Clubs: Clubs are ruled by Summer and Air. Clubs represent irresponsibility, youth, and intellectual growth. Jacks are the adolescent, the young boy. This card sometimes indicates a young, playful admirer.
Tammy’s emotions are young and theatrical, represented by masks. Masking her negative emotions suggests she cannot properly express them, confront them, but the dramatization of them will still keep attention on her.
King of Spades: This suit is ruled by Winter and Water. Spades is the suit of wisdom and maturity; they represent transformation, conflict, and acceptance. This card is an authoritative, ambitious, self-serving card.
Gwen is an ironfist; controlled and steadfast- much as a ruling King. But much like water against a stone, her resolve too can wear away and the self-preserving teacher finds herself worn thin after battle.
there is so much stuff and symbolism going on here that i don't think i'll ever notice it all, but what i see in particular is how expressive their hands are and how telling such a small detail can be.
Sara and Gwen both have a strong grip on their swords, which i think symbolizes their confidence and strength of character respectively, but on the flip side, they kind of let them go. i think it hints that Sara's confidence may be a cover to protect herself from being hurt by others; i don't really know what it means for Gwen, but maybe it's because she get's tired of being a tough person all the time??? you haven't really dropped enough hints for me to pick up on yet, haha
For Blaire and Tammy their hands are relaxed on the red side, but clenched on the purple side. Blaire is obviously pretty pissed that she got caught in her own web, and like i said earlier, i'm pretty sure it's foreshadowing her demise in story. For Tammy i'm not really sure. i think she might be unintentionally emotionally manipulative? like, she sounds like she's an attention seeker and she'll use passive-aggressive tactics to get people to focus on her when she's upset? i was kind of curious how such a meek and passive girl could be an antagonist, but i can see now how she could oppose Sara
ANYWAY, i'll probably be thinking about this piece for a long time! i can't help but pick apart and examine every aspect of your PT characters; my bad, hahahaaa
yeah i just love each and every one of them. SARA BECAUSE FUCKING SARA AND HER POWER and then
I REALLY LOVE HER MOTHER FUCK.
But yeah, please know how absolutely pos-i-tively proud of you I am for all of this hard work and love.
~DO I EVER~

I'm so happy you like her so much since I still have bouts of "she's so simple compared to everyone else" u//w///u;;;
T-THANK YOU CAIT ILU
Haha anyway, done rambling. Thank you!
first i lovvve the theme of this ! i think it fits your series very much and the colors you choosed for the characters are quite fitting for their personalities i say my fav is gwen here ! she looks pretty good with purple red gold and white <3
I can't believe you compared them to real cards too! We both tried to pull direct inspiration from the face cards of one type of deck art u///u I'm so happy you're into Gwen's crown omg! I was going for a warrior-king kind of feeling, vs Sam's less confrontational (Fragile figurehead moreso?) type of king.
I am soooo happy you like it that much! T-thank you gosh!

I really admire all the thought and work that you guys put into these sets, and these are definitely something that I'll be able to keep to heart as I watch each and every one of them go along their path, for better and for worse. You two are amazing, for true.
